Vision

Shirkat Gah
is committed to a just, progressive and democratic society where
women are fully empowered, gender equality, human security and
opportunities are ensured for all, peace prevails and resources
are shared on a sustainable and equitable basis. It strives to
ensure a responsible and sovereign state in a world order and
equity between national and international interests.
Background

Shirkat Gah - Women’s
Resource Center was formed in 1975, as a Collective to integrate
consciousness raising with a development perspective, and to initiate
projects translating advocacy into action.
Shirkat Gah means, ‘place of participation’, and over the last 30 years
it has empowered women by increasing their access to information,
resources, skills and decision making. In this process Shirkat Gah has
brought positive change to policies, laws, and practices. Shirkat Gah
has ECOSOC status at the United Nation.
Mission Statement

To
hold the state accountable and to develop a culture of peace that
ensures the sustainable and equitable use of resources and the full
inclusion and rights of all people;

advocate and mobilize for positive changes in policies and practices
from the community to the national and international levels;

To
build capacity, provide support and solidarity that enables women and
their communities to make informed decisions and create new choices.
Strategy

Shirkat Gah’s
programmes have an integrated participatory approach to development and
women rights, through a rights based perspective.

It addresses women’s
strategic needs through advocacy interventions that engage the
government and international forums at the policy level to ensure that
policies, programmes and laws are appropriate for and responsive to
women’s needs;

It combines advocacy
and capacity building based on research, networking, and publications;

It undertakes
innovative research, documentation, and dissemination of information.
